Thuppakki opened with 100% occupancy among multiplexes and single screens in Tamil Nadu. On the opening day it netted around 9.25 crore (US$1.68 million) in Tamil Nadu box office alone. By the first three days it collected around 22.25 crore (US$4.05 million) in Tamil Nadu and a sum of 45.6 crore (US$8.3 million) in its first week. It collected a whopping 65.32 crore (US$11.89 million) worldwide by its first week. In Chennai city alone the film netted 4.83 crore (US$0.88 million) in its first week with an average theater occupancy of 99%.The second week witnessed an occupancy of 90% in the city and netted around 9.41 crore (US$1.71 million) creating a new record by taking a distributor share of 4.60 crore (US$0.84 million) in 13 days. It still stood in the number one position by the third week resulting in a total collection of 11.36 crore (US$2.07 million). Ten days after the release, Thuppakki was released in 31 screens in Mumbai and roared success as well. Thuppakki was bought for a record price in Karnataka by a leading distributor, and it even opened well at the box office there.The opening 3 day collection from 8 multiplexes of Bangalore alone netted at 31.8 lakh (US$57,900) Thuppakki was released in 126 screens in Kerala and raked in 4 crore (US$728,000) in just two days with a distributor share of 2 crore (US$364,000) which is a record for any Tamil release. Many of the centers witnessed police charging before the shows and were forced to go for a fifth show on the first day which resulted in almost 600 shows in a single day: a record number of screenings for any film in the state.
